FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OPCD Implements Life-Saving Technology
from  RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse

NEW ORLEANS (August 29, 2018) –Orleans Parish Communication District (New Orleans 9-1-1) now has access to the RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse – a secure source for emergency data.

The first and most important question in every 9-1-1 call is “What’s the location of your emergency?” Knowing the caller’s location is the first step to dispatching life-saving emergency responders. Unfortunately, due to antiquated analog technology 9-1-1 centers have to rely on slow and unreliable location data for calls from mobile phones.

Through the NG911 Clearinghouse, New Orleans 9-1-1 is now able to receive fast and accurate location information and additional caller data for a large percentage of 9-1-1 calls.  New Orleans 9-1-1 call takers will soon have access to this information through the NG911 Clearinghouse integration into the existing dispatch consoles.

“New Orleans is a very unique city that welcomes millions of visitors a year who often do not have the ability to verbally provide the call taker the needed information to pin-point their location.  This new and exciting technology will help New Orleans 9-1-1 quickly get the right people to the right place at the right time”, says New Orleans 9-1-1 Executive Director Tyrell Morris.

The NG911 Clearinghouse is a centralized and secure location information server that is purpose-built for Next Generation 9-1-1. To learn more about RapidSOS and the NG911 Clearinghouse, visit https://rapidsos.com/ng911clearinghouse/.
